Collyweston Re-slate Project In Oundle
We always consider it an honour to be involved in restoring and maintaining our heritage rooftops. The re-slating of the Collyweston roof on this beautiful cottage in Oundle was no exception. The property dates back to around 1483 and boasts a rich history, including links to the Gunpowder Plot.
This property’s Collyweston roof had reached the end of its natural lifespan. As a result, owners contacted Heritage Roofing Services to re-slate the roof using the traditional skills and level of craftsmanship that this historical building deserved.
The Re-slating Process
Our skilled team carefully stripped back the old roof covering to the rafters. The original Collyweston slate was then hand-dressed to prepare for re-slatting the roof. With traditional laced turned Collyweston slate valleys, our team restored the roof to its former glory with every detail reinstated.
Part of Oundle’s Rich Heritage
Nestled in the historic town of Oundle, this charming cottage, is formerly known as The Ducks Nest and also The Anchor Inn. The building boasts a fascinating history that dates back to the Gunpowder Plot.
Previous owners include the parents of Sir Thomas Tresham, whose son Francis was involved in the plot until 1564. Over the years, the cottage has seen many notable figures cross its threshold. These include Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland, who once spent a night within its walls.
With its re-slated Collyweston roof, this cottage will now continue to be part of Oundles’ rich heritage for many years to come.
